CLIFTON – ONE OF THE MOST AFFLUENT SUBURBS OF CAPE TOWN

Clifton, a suburb between Bantry Bay and Camps Bay on the Atlantic Seaboard, is home to some of the most sought after and expensive properties in Cape Town. There is a mix of freehold and sectional title property here, with the majority being apartments.

It is world-renowned for its four pristine beaches, Clifton 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th (which has been awarded Blue Flag status) only accessible via steep steps, and offers a sheltered wind-free environment for most of the year.

Homes here are built on steep slopes, so the majority of these have uninterrupted 180° views of the Atlantic Ocean.  Land sizes here tend to be small, originally having had bungalows built on them between the 2nd and 4th beach for soldiers returning from World War 1.  These have now been replaced by new, upmarket multiple storey buildings, with high price tags even though the majority have no garaging or parking on the properties themselves.

Most residents in Clifton are 50 years and older and have lived in their homes for more than 11 years.

Tourism numbers are high in this area in the summer months and those who live here benefit greatly from the MyCiti bus service which offers an easy trip into the city (connecting there to various other routes) or south to Hout Bay.  In addition, the cycling route from here to Sea Point and and Mouille Point is fairly flat.
