Bantry Bay, Cape Town

Bantry Bay is an exclusive suburb of Cape Town on the bottom slopes of Lion’s Head, between Clifton and Sea Point, overlooking a rocky coastline.  It is, as Cilfton, one of the most wind-free areas in the Cape (enjoying around 290 wind free days a year).  It was originally called Botany Bay as it was a botanical garden that was planted here for the cultivation of medicinal herbs, and was renamed during World War I.

Freehold property in Bantry Bay is a small portion of the overall market (20,59%) and the remainder is sectional title schemes.  Most of the homes built here are designed to maximise on the views, often with multiple levels, and the many outdoor entertainment opportunities that this climate allows.

This suburb is set back from the hustle and bustle of Sea Point, yet close enough to be able to benefit from the variety of restaurants, bistros, coffee shops and boutiques nearby – either in Sea Point or in Camps Bay. 

The majority of owners of property here are over 50 years old with newer buyers being between 50 to 64 years of age. 

While the majority of owners in Bantry Bay will in all likelihood not have school going children, it is still well-positioned in terms of schools, with the French School, Herzlia, Sea Point Primary and High, and Camps Bay being within 420m to 2km away. 

The MyCiti bus runs through the middle of Bantry Bay on the coastal road, which then connects in the city with other routes to other suburbs.
