The affluent Cape Town City Bowl suburb of Gardens is well known as a destination of choice because of its glut of restaurants, coffee shops, bistros, boutiques, home décor studios, and hotels and the majority of people who live here tend to be young professionals seeking to be near the city centre itself.
Gardens is also well known for its large creative industry and it is home to many design studios as well as modelling agencies, production and publishing companies.
Then, too, is the world-renowned Mount Nelson Hotel, and close proximity to the Company’s Gardens and De Waal Park (right next door) where free concerts are held in the summer months and the locals are free to picnic and walk their dogs.
There are excellent schools in this suburb as well as many others being within a five kilometre radius – St Cyprians is possibly the most well-known but there is also Cape Town High School, Jan van Riebeek Primary and High School, Lycée Français du Cap (a division of the Cape Town French School). The German school is in the neighbouring suburb of Tamboerskloof, which is easily accessible, even in peak traffic.
An added bonus of inner city living is that the MyCiti bus services run regularly and the routes are well plotted to give maximum coverage to suburbs – and there are two routes running from Gardens through the city centre.
