Boksburg at a glance

Boksburg

Boksburg forms a part of the East Rand of Gauteng and has blossomed into one of the area's most popular regions. The suburb was originally set up as one of South Africa's first mining towns, and has since flourished as a family-orientated part of the greater Gauteng region.

The area was born as a mining town when gold was discovered back in 1887. The Main Reef Road linked Boksburg to all the other considerable mining towns and in 1890 a railway was built connecting it to Johannesburg, putting the town on the map.

Surrounding Transport

Traveling in and around Boksburg is made easy with its three national routes and three regional routes. With Boksburg being a mere 30 minute drive from the city of Johannesburg, the OR Tambo International Airport is also in close reach and will take you approximately 22 minutes in travel time.

This beautiful town has many other means of public transportation to choose from, such as bus services and taxis.

Schools and Education

If you're looking to relocate with your family, Boksburg has a number of excellent private and public primary and high schools to choose from, including:

- Laerskool Concordia

- Martin Primary School

- Wit Deep Primary School

- Summerfields Primary School

- Hoerskool Dr E.G Jansen

- Boksburg High School.

For tertiary schooling options, Woodlands International College is at the heart of the town. Because Boksburg is so close to the city of gold, tertiary schools - such as Wits University - are in close reach for students to travel home over the weekends.

Activities and Hotspots

Fun for the whole family over summer has to include Wild Waters - famous for offering the ideal entertainment experience that combines both thrill and excitement with their water park and other fun family activities.

Take your little ones to The Bokkie Park's secured playground. Enjoy feeding bunnies and watching wild peacocks and other animals roam free at their petting zoo. If this isn't enough, take your children for a pony ride at the park over the weekend. The venue is open from 8am to 5pm and is the perfect spot for hosting a picnic or a braai with friends.

The rest of the town is lively over the weekends with locals hanging out in restaurants and bars.
